Malika McCarthy
Born in a Welsh mountain valley, halfway between London and the west coast of Ireland, Mallika spent her childhood zigzagging from Europe to India to Australia, with plenty of adventures in between.
Carrying a suitcase of old faerie-tales, her life a patchwork quilt of places, stitched together with bright thread; Ireland has always been one of her homes.
Having worked as singer, songwriter; fire-dancer, street performer; stage manager, theatre-tech, waitress, bookseller; administrator, voice coach and yoga teacher, Mallika has worn hats in many worlds, but writing has always been her first love.
With most of her family now dead and gone, she has come to realize that it’s not where you come from that matters, but where you belong. She has made her home in County Clare, on the stormy wild west coast, where you might find her teaching, writing, singing, yoga-ing, doodling, reading, baking; or out lighting bonfires, talking to the rooks under seasonal skies. Inspired by ancient tales of myth and magic, Malika has been writing ever since she could hold a stick in a sandpit, but most of what she has written lives in a proverbial box under her bed. Until now. This is her first collection of poetry.
